A Canton, Ohio Wedding: The Caterers

A Canton, Ohio Wedding: The Caterers

Now that we’ve covered the wedding jeweler, bridal gown shop and florist in the last post, on to the tastier things. The catering companies we used worked well with our schedules (after work hours and weekends) and had enough material for us that we could look over and customize on our own time. Luckily, if your schedule isn’t like ours and you’d prefer more hands-on help, they also can accommodate to that style.

Part two: The consumables

I went to one bridal show, and that was enough for me. What I did find helpful through the experience was how little some caterers were willing to work with couples. At the idea of heavy hors d’oeuvres one caterer questioned, “you mean like ham and cheese sandwiches?” Uh, no.

Luckily we had run into Robert J Events at said event and really loved chatting with Nicole. A month or so later, we ran into her at Vintage Canton and proceeded to set up an appointment (again, after work hours which was incredibly helpful) and jumped in from there.

They are an all-inclusive company which is exactly what we were looking for. They set-up, tear-down, bring the chairs, linens and glasses, make the food, set it up, serve it and even box it up at the end. We knew going in that we didn’t want any of our guests to have to lift a finger, and most importantly didn’t want family members tasked with the responsibility of those logistics. As for the hors d’oeuvres, they were delicious! Crab cakes, chicken and veggie skewers, pita and hummus platters, a late night popcorn bar and many other creative ideas, all worked to fit our vision. We loved working with these folks.

Cupcakes – Nom Nom Cupcake Factory

Cakes are daunting, cutting them sucks and serving cut cake equally sucks so we decided on cupcakes, as many folks have done recently. Having had Nom Nom’s cupcakes before, it was an easy choice to call and set up a half an hour Saturday consult with Christi at their Belden Village location. We had walked in knowing which flavors we wanted and were able to test them all out to be sure, and we were.

Nom Nom had no problem providing five different flavors and they were also able to make and decorate a small cutting cake just how we wanted. We were happy with the pricing structure as well, they were much more affordable than West Side Bakery (about 1/3 less) and our flavors were fantastic. In case you are wondering, we went for maple with bacon, strawberry filled, almond wedding bells, ultimate chocolate and lemon. Delivery was on time, they rent various cake stands (I didn’t want to craft anything), and everyone was super happy to take one home at the end of the night.

  1. I love the idea of a small cutting cake & something non-cake for the guests. We’re planning to do the same thing with mini-donuts!

    • I love that idea! Just as easy, and I’m sure customizable. Congrats on the wedding!
