Best Haunted Houses in Northeast Ohio for 2013

Best Haunted Houses in Northeast Ohio for 2013

An awesome benefit of having a couple of growing boys is that I’m getting to re-visit all sorts of fun stuff *I* loved growing up (and secretly never outgrew). Like haunted houses. Even better, I get the added joy of watching my kids’ excitement and discovery. (Yes, I just implied that haunted houses bring joy. Moving on.)

This is the first year I’ve felt they’re old enough to handle a ‘fright night’ experience, and I’m still not 100% sure about the younger one, but he is PERSISTENT and would not let me forget it till next Halloween if I left him behind. So, we’re heading out to get spooked!

Here are my picks for haunted houses in Northeast Ohio. Get ready for some serious chills+thrills!

Haunted House #1 – Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Carnival of Horrors – I’m terrified of clowns. And dolls. And spiders. But mostly clowns. So naturally, we’re heading out Carnival of Horrors at Blossom Music Center. They have four (4!!) themed haunted houses including the Insane Asylum Cage Maze, 3-D Terrorvision, the Wicked Woods, and, most terrifying, something called the Fun House. Eeekkkk!

Admission is $19/pp, although tickets can be found for as little as $16/pp
Open weekends till Nov.2, rain or shine
Food court on site
1145 W. Steels Corners
Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223

Haunted House #2 – Canton, Ohio

Factory of Terror – This one is my home town of Canton, located in the sprawling old Hercules Engine Factory. At night? Yes, it is a terrifying factory, especially since the experience is ‘interactive’ – no hiding behind railings or similar wimpy nonsense. You’ll be fully immersed in terror such as claustrophobic conditions, sudden movements, moving walls and more.

Admission is $26/pp or Family 4-Pack for $75
Open weekends till Nov.2, rain or shine
Snack area on site
4125 Mahoning Road NE
Canton, Ohio 44705

Haunted House #3 – Lodi, Ohio

Nightmare in the Wilderness – A hayride that drops you off into haunted woods with a 45-minute journey back to safety? That’s Nightmare in the Wilderness in Medina County, where you’ll encounter clowns, mazes, beasts and general terror along the trail.

Admission is $17/pp, $12/children under 10, FREE under 5
Open weekends till October 26
Food available onsite at the Apple Cabin
7665 Lafayette Road
Lodi, Ohio, 44254

Haunted House #4: Akron, Ohio

Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory – An old vacant elementary school with rumors of ghosts? I’m scared already. If you dare to visit both attractions, it’s SEVEN FLOORS OF TERROR, including encounters with dragons, witches, Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory, and a dungeon of terror. Sounds like a good time, right?

Admission is $14-29, depending on when you go and what you do
Open Thurs-Sun till Nov. 2
Concessions available
1300 Triplett Blvd.
Akron, Ohio 44126

Haunted House #5: Parma, Ohio

The Fear Experience – Located in an old Value City, this attraction includes four haunted houses in one, as well as all sorts of scary like zombie paintball-shooting, fire-breathers, demented clowns, and more. Plus? They’ve invested in $200,000 of upgrades this year.

Admission is $22
Open till Oct. 27
Concessions available
10701 Brookpark Rd
Parma, Ohio

Haunted House #6: Columbia Station, Ohio

Spooky Ranch – With 23 years of haunted terror experience, it’s worth the drive to check out this haunted house in Columbia Station. You get 5 haunted attractions in one, including a haunted barn, hayride, and more…..CLOWNS.

Admission is $16-20 for adults, $11 for 10 and under
Open till Nov. 2
Concessions available
19066 East River Road (SR 252)
Columbia Station, OH 44028

Haunted House #7: Cleveland, Ohio

7 Floors of Hell - I know I’ve always wanted to subject myself to 7 floors of hell! You? In this set-up, you get to shoot at zombies and simulate being buried alive. This ‘haunted scream park’ also includes 7 terrors such as the ‘Mental Ward’ and ‘Blood Barn.’ Sounds like hell to me!

General admission is $25
Open till Nov. 2
Concessions available
19191 Bagley Road
Middleburg Heights, OH, 44130

I think that’s enough screams, scares, zombies and CLOWNS for one post. Where will you be subjecting YOURSELF to unecessary terror this year?
