Blue – Goodwill Boutique in Kent, OH

Blue – Goodwill Boutique in Kent, OH

When was the last time you were in Kent? Ever? It’s a college town, sure, but that’s what loads it full of character, and potential.

I went to Kent State University, and I genuinely treasure the memories I have of the entire experience. Except when I go back.

Why? Because it has undergone a ridiculously-successful downtown revitalization in the past 5 years that throws me into a JEALOUS longing of the collegiate memories I could have had! Instead of pizza slices, we could have had late night sushi and noodles; instead of sticky floors and stale beer, we could have sipped wine in a cute little boutique.

But I digress. Point of the story: it’s really shaped up to be am appreciable downtown full of beautiful boutiques, delicious dining opportunities and a packed activity calendar. All elements equally perfect for savvy college students and those who have waved goodbye to the good ol’ college years.

One of the coolest, new additions to Kent’s downtown is Blue a Goodwill Boutique. The shop is unlike any other Goodwill you’ve experienced; extremely well organized, simple to navigate and full of up-to-date items that are easy to envision in your very own closet.Blue - a goodwill boutique

Blue offers fashionable clothing, shoes and accessories for teenagers, young adults and middle aged women. Of the items browsed, very little (if any) wear shows through. Some of the items still have the original tags attached.

Prices start at cheap and increase to reasonable, of course dependent on the caliber of the item. If you’ve ever looked around Plato’s Closet or Clothes Mentor, Blue has lower prices on higher quality products.

Brands range from New York and Company to BCBG, from Mossimo to Express. And all styles of dress are represented: casual, work-appropriate, even elegant options.IMG_8237

Unsolicited brag: I scored a brand new BCBG ruffled, tiered dress for $12.75! That’s already kind of a big deal, though what’s more, Dillard’s had the same red cocktail dress just a month prior to my purchase for $184.

While other thrift shops are hard to navigate (who thought up organizing by color, not size anyway?) Blue is not. Visible “departments” are set up throughout the boutique with jewelry and handbags set up in Charming Charlie fashion on a long partition in the center and shoes on a wall in the back (plus in bunches around clothes they may pair well with).Goodwill boutique setup

Sundresses to formal gowns are in a section of their own by the dressing area, and one of the most unique parts of the store is called “Spice“. If you’ve been over on then you’ve come across one extremely thrifty fashionista, and also the composer of this section. Spice is full of clothes with sequins, faux fur, leather, patterns, ruffles and layerable basics.IMG_8238

Which leads me to… an invitation for you! Dina has orchestrated a fun and fashion-y event coming up in April that is open to all, For the Love of Fashion. And Collyn and I truly hope you’re able to make it.

See and shop Blue first-hand on Saturday, April 11 with prizes, style demos, a style contest and complimentary refreshments. The shop is open during regular business hours, and For the Love of Fashion will be from 2-4pm.

Highlighting the event is an in-store fashion show with boutique owners and other local bloggers, including Collyn and I. We’ve been asked to style a full outfit from the boutique for an array of occasions including date night, formal, career, business casual and girls night out.
