Akron, Ohio, or The Rubber City as you may know it, is located about halfway between Canton and Cleveland. It's easily accessible, and a great medium-sized city that continues to get better, especially downtown. We'll tell you about our favorite places to eat and drink, as well as things to do. If you're not familiar with Akron, OH... roll on in, we think you'll like it.
A few Saturdays ago, I wanted to venture a bit north to check out the mid-century modern selection at Medina Antique Mall (which is pretty good by the way!), but I wanted to hang with my hubs and little dudes, too.… Read More Read More
Hey guys, so guess what? It’s mid-July and summer showed up. Yup, all 90° and hot-and-steamy and stuff.
You know what this means: get thyself to the pool, quick! By my stellar math calculations, most of us have less than six weeks to do this before 1) it’s back-to-school, 2) the pools are drained, or 3) it snows.… Read More Read More
What has so far been the Summer of Yard Weeds, Incessant Rain, Rampant Bugs, and Pale Legs, has left me searching for any redeeming qualities of the season. I mean, we’re approaching mid-July here, and my tan currently ranks somewhere between ‘glowing white’ and ‘Nicole Kidman.’ (Can you relate?… Read More Read More
As you have already figured, we are always on the search for something new to do and somewhere to go in Akron, but that doesn’t necessarily mean after work. We’ve all been there – sometimes you need a really great lunch, or a break from the office, and heating left overs in the community microwave won’t cut it.… Read More Read More
Browsing Etsy is fun, but it's usually just that for me, browsing. However, when you put those shops on a table and allow me to pick items up, smell them (promise I'm talking about soaps and body butters... maybe), feel them and get caught up in the excitement, I buy, buy, buy. Perfect business concept! The creators of Crafty Mart just so happen to be savvy, and have smarty pants because they did just that. Read More! Read More

On this 5th of May, everyone’s favorite day to consume tacos and tequila like they’re going out of style, let me introduce you to my favorite off-the-beaten-path TACO TRAILER in Akron.
Yep, Akron has a taco truck-like thing.… Read More Read More
In case you’re not up on what’s currently baby-chic, let me tell you that custom, one-of-a-kind onesies are THE must-have baby item. I received a couple of these as baby shower gifts – one was custom appliqued by a ridiculously talented friend, the other was from an Etsy shop – and I love love LOVED both of them. Read More
Both Lisa and I are totally obsessed with mid-century modern everything. With the era’s clean lines and timeless appeal, what’s not to love? Unfortunately, we are not alone in this obsession, and prices tend to reflect this. (Curse you, hipsters!)
So, when I stumbled upon Mandi’s blog, I was all too excited to see her Canton home full of mid-century-yet-budget-friendly goodness.… Read More Read More
All of us non-Clevelanders have been there - jealous desires of wanting to take a swift car ride to Progressive Field, or even walking from an amazing restaurant to a ball game. You guys up North kind of have it made...
BUT. Low and behold. We have our own Summit county gem of a stadium, with a treasure of a team. (I sound like a pirate now, right? I'll stop. Promise.) The Akron Aeros. Read More
The Blue Door, however, appeals to the bruch-snob in us in almost every way. They offer locally-sourced ingredients, house-made pastries and breads, a small, rotating menu (not 189 variations of breakfast combos to pick from), and a perfect mix of breakfast/brunch/lunch/sweets.
As a couple of girls who could easily live on bread and cheese, we love that their menu has a European flair – crepes suzette, raspberry almond pancakes, sausage and feta frittata, mussels & frites, a BLT on homemade croissant, etc. And wouldn’t you know – their kitchen staff all has chefs’ training. Ordering a microbrew in downtown Akron, has long been happening at Lockview, and that's about it. Most of the bars down Main Street boast cocktails, wines, some imports but mostly big-box domestics. Needless to say, prior to the summer of 2012 your only option for a delicious craft beer was limitied. THEN. Then Baxter's Bar opened, right beside Lockview actually, and they carry around 200 beers.
