Park Street Pizza: Locally Sourced Eats in Ohio Amish Country

Park Street Pizza: Locally Sourced Eats in Ohio Amish Country

Head west along Route 39, about 30 minutes south of Canton, and you’ll find lush rolling farmland, quaint Amish shops, picturesque Ohio wineries, and some of the best pizza in the region.

Wait. What?

It’s true; amid an area best know for homestyle roast beef, mashed potatoes, and fried pies {not that there’s ANYthing wrong with fried pies} is a hidden gem called Park Street Pizza.Read More

Dining Around Northeast Ohio – Certified Angus Beef-Style

Dining Around Northeast Ohio – Certified Angus Beef-Style

As Lisa wrote in Part I of our series on Certified Angus Beef, our weekend adventure earlier this month was equal parts beef education, edibles, and FUN. Lisa talked about the educational aspect at the Certified Angus Beef Education and Culinary Center, which was fascinating by the way, and we hope to experience more from the CAB folks in the future.… Read More

Cocktail Therapy: Moscow Mule Recipes

Cocktail Therapy: Moscow Mule Recipes

I first became acquainted with the Moscow Mule - that classic ginger-lime cocktail served in a copper cup - a few years ago, a short time after Anthony Bourdain {love you, Tony!} visited Cleveland to film his TV show No Reservations. One of his stops on an "off night" in Cleveland (i.e., no video shooting that night) was the Velvet Tango Room, a swanky speakeasy in Tremont. He loved it, immediately regretting that the cameras weren't rolling as he soaked in the throw-back vibe and hand-crafted cocktails. And while I wish the rest of the story was that I also just happened to be there that night, and that he walked in and insisted on buying everyone a round of Moscow Mules, and that we became immediate, inseparable BFFs....it didn't quite work out that way. At all. Read More... Read More

First Amendment Public House: Good Food & Free Speech in Wooster, Ohio

First Amendment Public House: Good Food & Free Speech in Wooster, Ohio

When our family wants to venture outside of everyday territory for an outing, we love to make a short jaunt to Wooster, Ohio. It's a surprisingly hip town about 30 minutes west of Canton, surrounded by Ohio's rolling farmland on all sides (including the 'gateway' to Amish Country to the south) and - I'll be honest - not much else. Midwest Weekend Getaways – Presque Isle PA

Midwest Weekend Getaways – Presque Isle PA

When you live in Ohio, your options for quick getaways don’t always sound hot and sexy: Quick trip to Indiana, romantic weekend in Illinois, weekend getaways in Pennsylvania.

I can’t really come up with a fantastic lie as to why our Lake Erie Beaches outrank somewhere like Siesta Key, but I can tell you that we do have beaches and you can have fun without the 20 hour car ride to Florida.… Read More

Weekend Getaways Near Ohio – Chicago

Weekend Getaways Near Ohio – Chicago

It’s that time of year – scheduling vacation days! For those of us who work 40+ hours a week, the vacation day is a cherished, strategically-placed 8 hours that allow us the mind-break we need. Traditionally, vacations are thought to be a “week vaca to the tropics” etc, but what I find to be the most bang for the buck are weekend getaways near Ohio. These spots are close enough to drive (cheap enough to fly sometimes, even) and are perfect for spending anywhere between 2.5-5 days. Read More

Indy 500: Why You Need To Go in 2014

Indy 500: Why You Need To Go in 2014

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Indy 500 is coined "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", and it really lives up to it. This year was the 97th running of the Indy 500, which is chock full of traditions. A reading of how the track was created, the release of multi-colored ballons, a rendition of "Back Home Again in Indiana", the National Anthem, among everything else 'Murica. Opening ceremonies were exciting in themselves, and at times chill inducing, which only gave way to an even more exciting grand event. Read More! Read More
