Downtown Canton Coffee Shops

Downtown Canton Coffee Shops

For some coffee is recreational, for others it’s medicinal; for me, I’d like to think it’s a healthy “balance” of both. Not only is it delicious, warming and [almost always] necessary, the act of grabbing coffee with a friend is truly therapeutic and absolutely time well spent.

And seriously, on a Monday morning have you ever been annoyed when a coworker asks if you want them to pick an Americano up for you? Uhh, no. No coffee, no talky.

Between the chilly fall weather and this weekend’s inaugural Caffeine Crawl in downtown Canton (more on that further down), it’s definitely a great time to pick a new coffee shop to try out, or revisit and old favorite. So here’s the run down on where to get the best coffee in Canton.

DOWNTOWN CANTON COFFEE

Cultured Coffee Co.

One of the newer businesses to set up shop downtown (they’ve been around a couple of years now), Cultured Coffee fits right in. From the funky branded mustaches, industrial-reclaimed look and quirky sense of humor, it’s like they’ve been part of the family all along. Found on the Canton Music Block by Buzzbin and George’s, Cultured Coffee also partakes in live entertainment by opening up the mic on Thursdays and Saturdays.

A pastry case is filled with locally made goodies (some even for those who have allergies to all things). Also available are bottled soda and juices, bulk Iron Star Roasting Company and beer – yep, that’s right, they also serve craft beer.

Their coffee is amazing, lattes are artful, espresso is delightful, and they have all those fancy syrups you’re used to at those big ol’ conglomerates like Starbucks. They serve my absolute favorite americano, which makes them one of my favorite coffee shops in Ohio.

Open: Monday – Saturday from 7am – 11pm
309 Cleveland Ave NW
Canton, OH 44702

Muggswigz Coffee & Tea

One of the oldest and most iconic coffee shops in downtown, this is one of the coziest places to get work done or just hang out with friends.

Muggs’ claim to coffee fame is the behind the scenes artisanal labor. Not only do they roast and blend their hand-sourced coffees (on premise) they also serve some of the best loose, whole-leaf tea on the market. They take extreme pride in the quality of the products they source and serve.

Sauces and syrups are made in-house and carefully blended with espresso, steamed milk (macadamia nut, soy or almond!) and served with a little artistic flair. Muggswigz is easy enough to pop in for a cup to go, but each of the beverages are worthy of taking a little time to sit and enjoy.

Open: Monday – Friday: 6am – 12am; Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 12am
137 Walnut Ave NE
Canton, OH 44702
Also a Lake Cable location in Jackson Twp.

Chit Chat Coffee Shoppe

One of the “newer” spots in downtown, Chit Chat moved from Massillon to the Huntington Building, in a clean, airy setting. The owners keep it simple with the lineup, easy to grab, easy to pronounce, coffee classics. The coffee shoppe isn’t just for employees of the building, there’s plenty of seating if you’re looking to work remotely or spend some time unwinding on the sofa. What’s really nice about the space is the natural light flowing in from the huge windows.

This spot has some more substantial bites if you’re craving something more than just a quick pick-me-up. Between the paninis and soup, or the breakfast sandwiches and pastries, your choices for mid-morning snacks and lunch are pretty strong. Plus, they cater as well.

Open: Monday – Friday from 7am – 4pm
220 Market Ave S.

Canton, OH 44702

Carpe Diem Coffee Shop

Located in downtown for over 12 years, Carpe Diem has done a wonderful job jumping into the attempt to revitalize downtown Canton, while serving up piping hot cups of coffee to downtown visitors and dwellers alike.

They have a number of items to choose from, so even if your companion, or you, doesn’t do coffee per se, try one of their other bevvies like pomegranate green tea, smoothies, frozen hot chocolate, iced teas, frappes or a healthier protein shake. Carpe Diem also has a pretty extensive menu for breakfast, lunch or snack cravings.

Open: Monday – Friday: 7am – 2pm; Saturday: 8am – 12pm
215 Market Ave N.

Canton, OH 44702
Also a location in the Belden Village Mall
