Food, Art, Music, Stuff: 720 Market in North Canton

Food, Art, Music, Stuff: 720 Market in North Canton

Three-plus years ago, when the Cleveland Flea burst on the scene, Lisa and I were instantly hooked by its fresh concept. The combo of food trucks, local art, vintage finds, artisan goods, and live music in an open-air venue felt like a pretty perfect way to spend a Saturday. With the way the Flea’s taken off, plenty of Clevelanders agree with our assessment.

We even wondered what it would take to start our own version in the Canton area (answer: too much blood, sweat and tears, cuz we didn’t do it!). But luckily for us and our fellow Cantonians, a local couple had the same notion and, unlike our lazy butts, followed through in a big way! Thus, the 720 Market – a play on North Canton’s 44720 zip code – was born, and only one (ONE!) mile from my home sweet home.

Thank you, Dave and Lynne Shimko! You guys rock!

Two of the three 720 Markets for 2016 have already passed, but there’s one more to go, and you can catch it this Saturday, Sept. 17. We attended the May and July markets, and can’t wait to see what the third brings. Here are some of our tips and favorites:

  • Come hungry. Between the bagels and burritos, pierogies and popsicles, there’s enough variety to cover breakfast, lunch and dessert in one stop. (See entire food vendor list below.) If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know my affection for tacos, so I was eccstatic to stumble upon the Barrio taco truck in May and the Wholly Frijoles truck in July, which is returning this weekend as well. I also have an affection for LOBSTER, so we’ll have to see how that plays out with the lobster truck on site, too.
  • Come thirsty. Start with fresh roasted coffee in the AM then transition to craft beer…well, anytime after your AM coffee. We’re not here to judge. One of our favorite market touches is definitely the Royal Docks beer truck serving up craft brews to enjoy while you browse.
  • Shop for cool gifts. Artisan soaps, handmade jewelry, knitted baby (and adult!) items, upcycled home decor, succulents and planters, Ohio-themed merch…hello? Your Christmas list is calling. Friends and family will thank you for the unique items, and you’ll thank yourself when you’re not having to brave the mall in mid-December.
  • Stock your fridge and pantry. Want to enjoy your market finds now? There’s plenty of unique products to be consumed immediately, like all-natural pet treats, gourmet jams, microgreens, seasonal veggies, grass-fed beef, maple syrups, locally roasted coffee and more.
  • Don’t forget the fresh flowers. One of life’s little luxuries is fresh-cut flowers, right? They don’t come prettier or more local than Bloom Hill Growers. I picked up a bouquet of their sunflowers at Earth Fare not too long ago, and oh my goodness, how they brightened my mood and my dining table.
  • Find out who’s playing when. 720 Market provides live music and entertainment all day to suit all sorts of tastes, although I’m partial to The Scenic Route. The full line-up is below.
  • Put on some mascara. The first two markets have been very well attended (as in, food trucks running out of…everything), so if you’re a local, you WILL run into people you know. Just a friendly heads up, from me to you. ;)

Below is a map – note the NEW LOCATION for this market – and the complete list of 70+ vendors. Shop, eat, drink, talk, listen, discover and enjoy…this Saturday, 9am-3pm. See you there!
