Football Hall of Fame 2014 – Activities and Schedule
What kind of Canton residents would we be if we didn’t promote and suggest the Football Hall of Fame 2013 to our readers? It’s the #1 bragging right and tourist attraction we have, and we love it. We are proud of it and want others to have a good time when they come to visit.
For those who are traveling to Stark County for the enshrinement, festivities or game, we have a few suggestions for you to fill the gaps of time you have between the HOF activities and game. Here in Canton, we like to have fun, so there are a TON of activities that are planned for the Football Hall of Fame Week, too many too list here, in fact. You’ll get bored if I include them all… plus, I personally can’t say I’d have a ball at the 2 and 5 mile festival races, or the autograph sessions. You photographic memory type of people who remember all enshrinees and their career stats, while also running marathons, I apologize, I didn’t list those get togethers.
So here are the fun events that are actually FOR the 2013 Canton Football Hall of Fame:
CONCERT AND FIREWORKS
Saturday, July 26, 6 p.m. – Downtown Canton – Cornerstone Square
In downtown Canton at Tuscarawas St. and Walnut Ave., there will be music, a variety of food vendors, games for kids and as you can imagine – fireworks.
Wednesday July 30 – Friday August 1, 11 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. daily, Stark County Fairgrounds
BBQ Rib Pros from around the country compete for barbecue glory and cash prizes. Not a meat eater? No worries, there are other food vendors and and fair food-esque stands. There’s music each night of a different genre, from country to hair bands to 90s stars. My personal favorite so far was Gin Blossoms last year.
FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON
Friday, August 1, starting at 11:30 a.m. – Memorial Civic Center and Cultural Center
A great lunch with lots of ladies, followed by a show featuring fashions from casual to dressy and everything in between. Aproximately 150 of the season’s hottest fashions are provided by regional stores, showcased by male and female models.
FRIDAY NIGHT RECEPTION
Friday, August 1, 6:00 p.m., Pro Football Hall of Fame
At the grounds of the Hall of Fame prior to the Gold Jacket Ceremony you’ll find a the reception includes dinner, beer and wine. Then guests have exclusive afterhours access to the Pro Football Hall of Fame with a self-guided tour of the museum.
Saturday, August 2, 8:00 a.m., Downtown Canton
This is a Canton Ohio resident LOVE. You get to watch as giant helium balloons, marching bands, specialty units, and fabulous floats walk through downtown Canton. This is a classic event that has been attended by generations of football fans and locals alike!
FAN APPRECIATION TAILGATE PARTY
Sunday, August 3, 5:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Pro Football Hall of Fame
Start off the NFL preseason in style at the fan tailgate party at the Pro Football HOF. Eat tailgate style food, Pepsi products and beer. Party with 2,000 of the best football fans around with awesome music and the chance to shake hands with a Hall of Famer.
NFL/HALL OF FAME GAME
Sunday, August 3, 8:00 p.m., Pro Football Hall of Fame Field at Fawcett Stadium
Kick off the 2014 NFL preseason at the annual NFL/Hall of Fame Game in Canton featuring the Miami Dolphins vs. Dallas Cowboys. The game takes place next to the museum on Hall of Fame Field in historic Fawcett Stadium.
*My bragging rights here – The cheerleaders of one team will teach the local high school cheerleaders the pre-game dance, in which they get to perform in front of everyone! When I got to do that my sophomore year, I MET JOHN ELWAY. And that is where my love for the Broncos blossomed.
DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Tuesday, August 5, 6:30 p.m., Paul Brown Tiger Stadium (Massillon)
I LOVE THIS. The 2014 Drum Corps International Competition has eight of the best drum corps in America, including five of the top 12. The corps will be performing a few days before the world championships, and they’re the-bomb. And, this is coming from the girl who endured, and haaated my older sister’s band concerts – so yeah, this is good stuff.
