The Tasting Room at Hoppin’ Frog – Akron Beer
Tower Tuesday, Blendsday and Vinyl Thursday, regardless of the day you go to Hoppin Frog, you’ll have an amazing selection of not only Hoppin’ Frog beers, but also hard to find craft beers from elsewhere. They aren’t prejudiced; they know a good beer when they taste it, whether it’s theirs or not. Along with the 10+ Hoppin’ Frog beers, you’ll find over 20 other beers from around the world.
When you’ve tried all of the HF beers (and re-try B.O.R.I.S. a few more times) you can move on to great brewery creations from elsewhere including Struise’s Roste Jeanne, Bear Republic Black Racer, North Coast Old Stock Ale and whatever they decide to throw in there at anytime. Like I said, the menu is constantly changing so it makes The Tasting Room a spot to frequent, even for the adventurous.
As previously posted, Hoppin’ Frog used to host food trucks each time they debuted a new brew, but now with an in-house kitchen for the Tasting Room, I’m sad to say this will no longer be. Although it’s a bummer to find food trucks elsewhere, I’m happy to tell you how fabulous the Tasting Room’s food is. You have the option to get anything from an appetizer to a hearty meal with their menu selection – which is constantly evolving.
To give you an idea of the selection, they offer cocoa rubbed steak dinners, sandwiches, charcuterie board (on a frog shaped board, mind you), mango salsa and chips and much more. To give you a good idea of the quality, you can get a fabulous bistro mac and cheese with chicken… or duck. The menu changes what seems like daily, but after checking out a couple weeks of menus, there are some trusted staples on there.
The atmosphere is fun, and for going on a Wednesday, it was pretty busy. You’ll find a seat either at the high tops or bar, but I’d make sure to get there a little earlier if you have a bigger group to ensure you have enough seats.
When we went during the week, it was the perfect spot for a happy hour with co-workers; we also saw a few couples in there and quite a few groups of friends. If you’re wanting to try it out solo, that’s okay too because there are plenty of seats at the bar, and the bartenders are super friendly and talkative.
A few other fun facts to mention: the owner and brew master is usually there mingling and answers just about any question you throw his way about the beers or brewery. Also, if you want to take home some of your favorite finds, you can buy the beers by the bottle and lug them out with you.
If you need just ONE MORE reason to get to The Tasting Room: they are releasing a new B.O.R.I.S – hallelujah! – on Saturday, August 31 called Cafe B.O.R.I.S and hosting an event with a lot of neat stuff going on.
