Indie Fashion: Mainstream Boutique in North Canton
It wouldn’t be much of a Small Business Saturday here on the blog if we didn’t talk for a minute about a….local small business. Brilliant, right?
I think I can speak for Lisa as well as myself when I say that we’ve both been making an effort to spend a whole lot more of our money with local vendors and a whole lot less at major shopping chains and discount stores. It’s a win-win, and only an ‘effort’ if you’re put out by seeking unique, often one-of-a-kind goods that help support local establishments.
Disclaimer: if you still run into me at Target or Marshall’s, I’m a work in progress – what can I say?
One place to hit the local scene with a bang is Mainstream Boutique in the busy Washington Square area of North Canton. It’s a trendy fashion boutique with ALL THE PRETTY dresses, tops, sweaters, scarves, dangly earrings, Miss Me jeans, and more. (If you’ve not yet discovered that magical properties of Miss Me jeans, please do something about that ASAP.) I’d say Mainstream’s clothes lean toward the fun side, with a smattering of bling and glam. I personally gravitate toward the non-blingy pieces, and they offer plenty of both.
Mainstream Boutique also helps fill the “cute top” void that’s long plagued our area. I am a firm believer that every outfit needs a cute top and good jeans to succeed, and Mainstream helps ensure you won’t run into copies of yourself all over town. For instance, I found a CUTE TOP (not in my size, sad face) that looked like a black sweater on the front, but had a geometric print in a totally different fabric on the back. I’m a sucker for special details, and their pieces deliver. Take a look:
Mainstream also orders their merch in small quantities, which means you’ll get an (almost) one-of-a-kind piece and a totally different shopping experience every time you visit. I love that, although you have to move quickly if you see something you like. One of the owners (again, sisters! Just like my last post on Simply Delicious pies) told me that they’ve been known to sell out of pieces in one afternoon. Be sure to follow them on Facebook for their newest arrivals; they do a great job of posting pics on a daily basis.
Also, if you’re concerned that an indie fashion boutique will have ‘runway’ prices, I totally understand that fear. There’s nothing worse than finding a great dress….for $350. That said, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by Mainstream’s prices – I’ve found that most tops, dresses, boots, and pants fall in the $30-$80 range, with tops being on the lower end, pants on the higher end. Some jewelry and scarves are priced a little lower, and make the perfect ‘gift that always fits’ for Christmas. Flat boots are about $60-$70 – not bad!
Mainstream also has lots of in-store special events, which means great deals and snacks – two of my favorite things! Again, follow ‘em on Facebook or subscribe to email updates for the latest.
This holiday season and beyond, put Mainstream Boutique on your SHOP LOCAL list. You can thank me when those “cute top” compliments start rolling in.
