Midweek Mentions: May 22-28

Happy early Memorial Day! Lotttttts going on this week/weekend, so let’s get to it!

Lisa’s Recs:

The Indy 500 race is this Sunday! It will be my first year going, and I could not be more excited. Grilling out, spending time in the sun and watching some of the fastest cars race – heaven. Why do you care? Because it’s only a four and a half hour drive to Indianapolis; if you’re looking for a spontaneous trip this weekend, or you’re a biker looking for a long ride I highly recommend coming out. Thousands upon thousands of people having a good time, and hey, if you find me, I’ll give you a “This Is Indy” koozie and one of the 200 pudding shots we are taking with us ;)

Akron folks: Rock the Lock at Lock 3 is Friday, May 24th at 7 p.m. Free admission for all to listen to The Juke Hounds and Evil Ways, A Tribute to Carlos Santana. It’s an easy, and totally affordable evening – plus you can check out some of the restaurants downtown like Crave, Luigi’s, House of Hunan or Lockview.

Quick Memorial Day Snack: I mentioned delicious rosemary mixed nuts at Baxter’s a few weeks back, and have a tasty copycat recipe for them.Rosemary Mixed Nuts

  • 4 cups of mixed nuts ( I used 2 cups premium mixed nuts and 2 cups cashews)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons sale
  • 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons dried, crushed rosemary
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1. Preheat oven to 350′.
2. Melt butter in pan, add all seasonings, mix it around and then throw the nuts into the saute pan. Use rubber spatula to mix and coat.
3. Put on a cookie sheet and bake (stirring occasionally) for 8 minutes. Take them out to cool, and you’re done.

Collyn’s Recs:

Taste of Canton is TODAY and TOMORROW, May 22-23, in Downtown Canton. Can’t wait to see what vendors are cookin’ up this year! Of course, you can’t go wrong with the stromboli from Napoli’s, or the ice cream from Almost Heaven, or anything from Bender’s….. :)

Piazza at GervasiThe Piazzi at Gervasi had its soft opening last Friday, and Lisa and I were there to scope it out along with a few friends. We’re here to serve the community! Everything looks GORG as usual, the piazzi and bocce courts were hoppin’, and construction of the Crush House is well under way. We’ll no doubt be blogging about that soon. The Piazzi OFFICIALLY opens this Friday the 24th, with a full menu.

BAM! Healthy Cuisine, sandwiched between the UNhealthy new Winking Lizard and Handel’s Ice Cream, is OPEN in their new digs at Washington Square. Besides being one of our favorite spots for great wraps, salads and pizzas in North Canton, we’re also pretty proud: my agency did their new web design, and Lisa’s boyfriend’s firm did the interior architecture and styling.

While Lisa is at Indy, I’ll be hanging back in Canton managing my kitchen remodel (ugh), hoping to escape long enough to get to Hartville Flea Market on Memorial Day. It’s their biggest weekend of the year, and I kinda love the insanity. A few treasures always make their way home with me, too…..
