Piccadilly Artisan Creamery – CLE Sweets

Piccadilly Artisan Creamery – CLE Sweets

PiccadillyEuclid Avenue has an awesome artisan creamery called Piccadilly. What’s so special about this particular spot? The ice cream is totally custom and made to order using liquid nitrogen…plus Piccadilly is in a neat location east of the city in University Circle.

Pick your size, pick your “milk” and pick your toppings. Small or large; organic coconut milk or organic dairy milk (cow OR goat); toppings that range from pecans to whip cream from chocolate chips to fruit. Each of the toppings cost $0.50 if you go ala carte, but chocolate and caramel drizzle are free.

Not into making decisions? Piccadilly provides a few predetermined combos that are, simply put, the bomb. Think Strawberry Basalmic and Caramelized Banana.

Are you stricken with food intolerance? No worries here. Choices range from organic dairy to non-dairy vegan frozen yogurt. No antibiotics, no hormones, no steroids -just good-ol’ grass-fed cows start this process. To make it a little more “Ohio,” the milk is locally sourced from Amish Country.

Disclosure – some of the toppings include tree nuts, so do chat with them about that if you have a nut allergy. I am not an expert in that field.

If that’s not a hard sell in itself, no artificial colors or flavors ruin this fresh, local mix.

The interior is a fun play on indie-industrial. The long wooden bar in the front is perfect to sit and watch what’s happening on the street, but there are also lower top tables if you prefer to sit face to face with your company.

Not only is Piccadilly ice cream wickedly delish, it’s frickin’ cool to watch them turn your chosen, raw ingredients into a frozen mass with liquid nitrogen (odorless, colorless, tasteless). While pouring your ingredients into the kitchen-aid mixing bowl, the “chemist” slowly pours splashes of liquid nitrogen into the mix allowing it to freeze while meshing the flavors.

No time for an excursion during your busy afternoon? Find Piccadilly at the Cleveland Flea. They also set up shop during the once-a-month shopping and eating bonanza.

Oh, and if you think I’m completely bonkers about “where” Piccadilly is, I’m not: this is their *creamery* location on Euclid, and is the sister shop to their two fro-yo places in Coventry and Ohio City. While their other shops are similar (I say that loosely) to Menchie’s or Lemonberry in the sense of serve-yourself, I think the experience here on Euclid is worth the trip because it’s completely unique.

Take your own self-guided sweets tour: check out Piccadilly AND their neighbor Coquette Patisserie. Nearly next door, you’ll also find the most delicate and delicious macarons… delightfully paired with champagne or craft beer. Whatever may be your jam.

The location is perfect for an afternoon or evening getaway. Grab your creamery-creation after strolling around MOCA, or share a cup after an incredible dinner at L’Albatros. The University Circle district is continuing to expand and get better, so your options are plentiful.
