Taste of Canton – May 21 & 22, 2014
**Contest is now CLOSED**
Things only get better with age, right? The Taste of Canton, a two-day food festival in downtown Canton, is no exception. Now in its 6th year, Taste of Canton has more restaurants and specialty vendors than ever, plus locally-loved entertainment and a fantastic atmosphere.
Nothing makes me as immeasurably happy as food and drink in the sunshine, and I’m sure the same goes for you. This is the kickoff to our beloved season of warm-weather festivals. And if the forecast holds, we’re looking at two days of absolutely perfect weather.
To make this kickoff even sweeter, I have $15 to give someone for the Taste of Canton. More on that in a bit.
What you can expect at ‘Taste’ is a range of options from farm-to-table cuisine (Lucca) to ethnic treats (Kabab & Curry), from homemade ice cream (Almost Heaven) to decadent donuts (Peace, Love & Little Donuts). Regardless of culinary expertise or foodie-prowess, there is a vendor (….or four) that is sure to be a perfect match for you palate.
Participating restaurants include 91 Restaurant Group (Table Six, 91 and 3 Brothers), Almost Heaven Ice Cream, Baja Pizzafish, Benders Tavern, Bombshell Cupcakes, The Canton Club, Carpe Diem Coffee Shop, Chocolates by Erin, Danny Boys Pizza, Deli Ohio, Harry London Gourmet Chocolates, George’s Lounge, Kabab & Curry, Loby’s Bar & Grille, Lucca, Mack’s Custard, Nom Nom Popcorn Company, Old Carolina Barbecue Company, Papa Gyros, Peace Love & Little Donuts, St. Haralambos, Tapas 218 and Two Fat Guys BBQ.
Each dish will be between $2-$6; the idea being to try several vendors during a lunch or dinner. For smaller appetites, 2-3 ‘tastes’ are perfect; those with larger appetites can fill themselves with 3-5 dishes. An idea of cost/portion: you’ll walk away with an appetizer portion of scallops or crab cakes for $5-6, sandwiches and sliders for $3-4, breadsticks & marinara for $2, and cannoli for $2 – all of which are a phenomenal deal.
Those who love an adventure, or aren’t accustom to trying items “outside of the box,” this is PER-fect. With small portions at small prices, there isn’t a commitment to a full meal unless you want it. Never tried arancini (deep fried balls of risotto)? Visit Lucca’s booth and give it a try. Not sure if you like fish tacos? Try just one at Loby’s table.
DEAL ALERT: Buy 30 tickets for the price of $25 at any Fishers Foods location or The Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce until May 19th. Can’t buy beforehand? Tickets can also be purchased at the event, dollar for dollar.
I shutter to say it, but if you’re not “into food,” don’t worry, Taste of Canton will have a craft beer garden with five unique brews, whisky cocktails from Cleveland Whiskey, and wine. So — drink and be merry.
Live music will ultimately marry the delish food and libations. DJs during the day for the lunch crowd and the evening shows will be fantastic. The Bearded Lady with Elec Simon and Saxy Rob is up at 6pm on Wednesday, and Yankee Bravo performs at 6pm on Thursday. A caricature artist and kids’ area will keep the little ones entertained, as will a live “street art” demonstration by local artist David McDowell.
Taste of Canton starts at 11AM (hello, lunch crowd) and runs until 9PM on Wednesday and Thursday.
Rain? No problem. This year the majority of the event has been moved to Market Street (think Vintage Canton) and is covered. Plenty of seating will be provided (new this year), and you’ll have to option to eat and walk, sit communal style at a picnic table or stand at a high top.
We kind of want to show off our downtown area, so don’t feel shy if you’re outside of the 330 area code. Just plug in 301 Market Ave. N, Canton, OH 44702, to find the event.
Getting outside to enjoy the fresh air + live music + edibles keeps most of us kicking throughout the colder months. Lucky for you – you have a chance to enjoy all of these things for… well, FREE, if you enter our contest:
